Treasures at the beach
Treasure 1 B and I went to the beach and found the breakwaters that look like what was drawn on the prophetic card. The verse on the card was “I will even make a road in the wilderness, And rivers in the desert…” Isaiah 43:19. After praying and discussing, we agreed on who the treasure was. Someone sitting near our treasure got up and walked away, confirming that she was the right person. We climbed up the breakwater and sat near her – a young lady sitting alone in the middle of it. I approached her and asked if she could help us take a photo. Since she had a bag of inline skates beside her, I started a conversation about inline skating, as I’m also a skate enthusiast. We gave her the prophetic card and asked whether the words meant anything to her. She shared that she was going through a season of dryness and self-doubt, and was trying to find meaning in a new job she had started a few months earlier. After understanding more about her work, we encouraged her with some words of hope. She said the card had made her day and shared that she was of another faith but had not attended church for some time. I then shared my testimony. I told her that I was born Catholic and baptised as a baby. And how Jesus spoke to me through the Bible, leading me to invite Him back into my life and later to be baptised again. We invited her to visit Cornerstone Church at Odeon Katong. We also asked if we could pray for her and felt led to bless her with a benediction before we left. Treasure 2 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28 was the Bible verse on the second prophetic art card we had. The card had a yellow balloon with water underneath it. We felt that it was meant for a mother figure, so we continued walking along the beach and spotted an Indian lady sitting alone on a bench, wearing a yellow shirt. Her husband and daughter were playing in the sand nearby. We didn’t feel it was the right time to approach her while her husband was still close by, so we stayed nearby and waited patiently. Later, her husband and daughter came back to the bench and put on their shoes. We thought the father was bringing their daughter to the washroom to wash their feet, but they ended up heading in the wrong direction to a washroom farther away instead. We felt that this was God making a way for us to approach the mother. We shared the card with her and asked if she felt tired from work and caring for her family. She agreed and shared that they are not locals. She thanked us for the card and mentioned that they are of a different religion, not Christian, and that they had once visited a Bethesda church for a Christmas event. Since it was Mother’s Day weekend, we wished her a happy Mother’s Day and invited her to visit Cornerstone Community Church.
At the crossroad
We prayed for our treasure today and GT received the location as Starbucks. On our way there, we met 2 other PE mates who were also going Starbucks. GT felt this is a confirmation from God. There were many students studying in Starbucks. We looked around for a table and for our treasure at the same time. Both of us agreed it would be a young girl sitting alone at a high table. We bought food and drinks and sat on the same table as her. It was difficult initially as the girl had earphones on and typing on her laptop. GT and I got to know each other while waiting for a good opportunity. Just as our conversation reached the topic of Anxiety in young people, the girl got ready to leave. I started speaking to her and we got to know she is a Year 1 uni student doing Data analysis and computing. GT asked the girl if she is experiencing any anxiety in her school work. The girl was very open and shared on her anxiety, why and how she is considering to change her course specialisation and her concerns on the job market. The girl shared that she is a free thinker and her family are also non-believers. Her mum had brought her to a temple previously. She has Christian friends who invited her to church events previously and she attended a few but she doesn’t know Jesus personally yet. GT asked for permission to pray for her and she agreed. We encouraged her to visit the church near her house, which is where many of her friends are attending too. I shared with her my personal experience with students from that church and how they encourage young people to pursue higher education and strive to glorify God in their studies. I could sense she was touched and encouraged by GT’s prayer and our sharings.
Jesus sees our tears
MJ, Padma, Karen and I prayed before heading for street evangelism. MJ received downloads- depression, anxiety, MRT, labubu (doll) and pink colour. I confirmed her “MRT” as I connected the colour “brown” that I received to Marine Parade station under TEL (brown) line. Also, I saw lips and understood it as “lip service”. Padma saw a lady. God placed in my heart very clearly, like a warning not to take the familiar route of Roxy Square to get to Marine Parade station. We asked around and got to know an alternative route via Katong V. While walking out of Katong V to an open air carpark, both Padma and MJ took a second look at a couple wearing matching pink shirts sitting on a bench outside, a pickup/drop point. The bench is brown and there were many brown beams behind them. They felt she is the treasure. Padma was able to start a conversation with the lady and we got to know that the couple is waiting for a friend to pick them up. They are locals stay in the West and came to the East for a staycation. As we chatted, the lady shared that her work as a Shoppee picker is tiring and her ACL ligament is torn but she hasn’t gone for a surgery. This would be the second time she torn her ligament. I prayed for healing upon her knees. Padma sensed that she has a lot of hurts and pain on her heart. She started to tear and asked how does Padma know. She admits that she smile and look happy but has many hurts and pain inside. MJ told her that its Jesus who reveal to us the condition of her heart. Jesus loves her so much that He sent us to her. I asked if she has a Labubu doll. She does not has Labubu but she has a Mickey Mouse that she shares all her problems since she has no one to share and is depressed. She had seen a counsellor previously. She is divorced with 3 teenage-adult children. The man with her is her boyfriend and she talked about going through relationships that do not last. Twice, she said we (3 of us) see her inside and almost teared. MJ and Padma prayed for her. I encouraged her to call upon the name of Jesus when she is crying and sharing her problems to Mickey Mouse. We gave her church contact card and she should call the number if she needs any counselling. We thank God that her boyfriend stepped far away and their friend to pick them up had not arrived by the time we left, so we were able to minister to the lady in privacy. Jesus saw her tears and pain in her heart and we are amazed by His great love for her.
